A child’s dental visit may include an examination, cleaning and preventive care based on their age and needs. Regular checkups help identify concerns as baby teeth and permanent teeth develop.
We’ll review your child’s dental history, brushing habits, diet and any concerns about developing teeth. The first dental visit is generally recommended when the first tooth appears or by age one.
Your dentist checks the teeth, gums and bite for signs of decay or developmental concerns. X-rays are recommended when clinically appropriate. Specialist referrals may be discussed if additional evaluation is needed.

Begin brushing when the first tooth appears. Use a rice-sized smear of fluoride toothpaste under age three and a pea-sized amount from ages three through six. Help and supervise your child’s brushing twice daily.
